Peyton's One Year Appointment

Peyton had her one year appointment today, and all is looking well.  He saw an improvement since the last time he saw her in her neck strength, and core.  He said he received all the reports of all the professionals we've seen since her 9 month appointment.  The neurologist, the optometrist, and her physical therapist all provided detailed reports from their initial examinations.  He reiterated that we're just dealing with delayed motor development, and are sticking with a physical therapy plan to catch her up.
She's down quite a bit in her percentiles.  She actually lost almost a pound since her last visit, she now weighs 21 lbs, 5 oz and dropped from 80-something percentile to 52%.  He wasn't concerned as the first year is growth, and the second is supposed to be mainly motor development.  Not to mention 52% isn't exactly low :o).  he also said this age is typically when
their eating habits change and hers definitely have.  She loves all baby food, even most of the more protein based dinners, but she's having a hard time transitioning from that to big people food.  Sometimes, she'll take bread, other times, she just spits it out.  She likes puffs, but not baby crackers or cookies.  She used to gag quite a bit too on food, but that also seems to slowly be getting better.  She hates cottage cheese.  She will eat yogurt, but she doesn't like anything too cold, so I have to take it out of the fridge for a while before feeding her.   We're still working on trying new things though and she seems to be warming up a little.  They also measured her at 30 inches, which is what they measured her at 9 months as well.  Both the doc and the nurse thought they measured her wrong last time because there's just no way she hasn't grown any.  In fact, I know she has as she's now too long for most the clothes she was wearing at her last appointment, which was already 9-12 month sizes.  She is definitely in 12-18 months depending on the brand.  Most of the 18 month sizes are too big around her chest and waist, but she needs the length.  She is darn wiggly and the way they measure is far from an exact science.  30 inches at 9 month, she was at 100% so that also leans towards an error.  She's always been in the 90th percentile though.  30 inches at 12 months (they measured her twice today), drops her to the 76%, which is still pretty tall.
She's sitting very good now, but is still only rocking on all fours.  She is almost scooting backwards while rocking though, which is generally the first step.  She's gotten too excited and lunged forward a couple time, but her arms weren't there to support her, and down she went.  Luckily, she doesn't seem to be discouraged when that happens, but she is one stubborn little lady at times.  I'll put her in a four point quite often but if she's tired, or has just eaten, or simply isn't in the 'right mood', she'll instantly flatten out onto her tummy & forearms.  She's definitely strong enough, she just doesn't want to do it.  I'll try it again, and she'll repeat the same.  By about the third attempt, she'll generally go down, then let me know she's not having it right now with a big growl or yell - tee hee.  We generally try to do her exercises about an hour and a half after she wakes up in the morning, when she's the happiest and isn't hungry, but isn't stuffed either.  At that time, she seems to really excel and interacts with curiosity and happiness that is so great to see!
