Not only are we pretty much snowed in here, the pass is currently closed, Spokane is also buried in over 28 inches of snow. Two days ago they received a record breaking two feet + of snow in a 24 hour period! The airport was partially closed, allowing only a couple flights in and out a day. My mom has four wheel drive and studs and still couldn't get out of their neighborhood. Garbage service was suspended along with mail delivery, and all public transportation for the first time since they started recording snow fall in the area. Many of the major streets have been closed, including sections of Interstate 90 at times. The City remains in a “Condition Red” snow emergency, which means City crews will continue plowing snow 24 hours a day, seven days a week until they can complete a full City plow, which includes removing snow from 967 miles of arterial and residential streets. Unlike the Seattle area, it's not typical for everything to shut down when it snows. Things would be closed from Thanksgiving to nearly Valentines Day if that was the case. To give an example, last winter was the first year school closures occurred due to snow sine 1997, and they get quite a bit of consistant snow every winter. They have way more plows, de-icers, and equipment to handle snow. Needles to say, our trip East for Christmas won't be happening this year. I am really bummed but with two little ones we needed to keep safety first.
Mason, daddy, and Haus have been having a BLAST in the almost 8 inches of snow we have at our house now! Despite being upset to find out we aren't going to grandma Burda's house for Chirstmas, Mason has still been in good spirits, I'm sure all this snow and daddy play time isn't aiding that at all ;o)
